You do not have to pay any of these companies to become a mystery shopper. Some mystery shops you may have to pay something out of pocket, but will be reimbursed for the expense and also paid a shop fee. For example, assign yourself a burger shop. You will purchase the meal, do your evaluation of the service take a few pictures of the meal and receipt, write your brief report and submit. Depending on the company and their payment schedule you will be reimbursed within 30 days for the purchase of the meal and also paid a shop fee.
Not all mystery shops require you to purchase anything. You can also do online shops in the comforts of your home. I do those a lot. Saves on gas!
